This is a 1 to 4-day itinerary to make the most of the time you have in the Park. The following companies are authorized to provide snowmobile and snowcoach tours in Yellowstone. We spent four days exploring Gardiner, the Tom Miner Basin, and enjoying winter at Yellowstone. On our recent trip, we got to stay at B-Bar Ranch in the Tom Miner Basin. B-Bar Ranch has around 14 miles (22.5 kilometers) of groomed ski trails and another 5.1 miles (8.2 kilometers) of backcountry trails. The only hot spring in the park, which you can easily access and soak in, is the Boiling River. Off-road use of snowmobiles and snowcoaches is prohibited. That is why there is so much interest in seeing this adventure first hand. Whether we are visiting Yellowstone winter or summer, we like to stop at this family-friendly bar and restaurant. Many shops do have shorter winter hours, so be sure to check if you have your heart set on a particular place. Snowcoach tours run through most of the park all through the winter season, and are available from a number of National Park Service approved vendors. The best part about cross-country skiing at B-Bar Ranch is the view. You can drive to Gardiner from the north on Highway 89, drive into Mammoth Hot Springs, through the park, and out to Silver Gate and Cooke City, Montana. Where to Go Where to Stay Snowmobiles have come a long way in recent years. We stayed in the cozy West Wing. Wolves follow bison and elk to the valleys and are easier to spot. Many of the shops in Gardiner stay open for winter in Yellowstone. Park amenities at Mammoth and Old Faithful are open for the season, and there are many fewer visitors. You may be concerned that you have less control on where you stop; but the snowcoach operators are very good about stopping for scenic viewing, photo opportunities and leg stretching. There are 4,000 square feet of mineral hot springs divided into a big pool (102-degrees F) with two smaller pools inside it (one is a cold pool at 67-70-degrees F, the other is hotter than the main pool at 104-degrees F) and a kneipp walk. During the winter, the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel and the Old Faithful Snow Lodge are the only two overnight facilities open in the park.
